Summary

Sorata and Yuzuriha stare in shock at Arashi. Yuzuriha tries to explain to Arashi that Kusanagi was protecting her and wants to know why she attacked him. Arashi ignores her. Sorata also demands an explanation. Arashi tells him that she is now a DoE. She leaps off the shrine and Sorata chases after her while a tearful Yuzuriha stays by Kusanagi's side. He catches up with her by some railroad tracks. He is angry and tells her he has been really worried about her and wants to know what's going on. She turns to leave and he grabs her by the wrist. She hits him in the stomach with the hilt of her sword, knocking him to the ground. She points her blade at him and tells him again she is now a DoE. A train is coming and Arashi leaps across the tracks. When the train finishes passing, Arashi is gone, leaving a stunned Sorata behind in the rain.

It is morning and Kamui is talking with Sorata. He says he cannot believe Arashi has betrayed them and says there must be a reason for her betrayal. Sorata looks down sadly, and says it doesn't matter. If she is a DoE, she is their enemy. Kamui looks shocked and troubled to hear this from Sorata. Sorata changes the subject. He tells Kamui that since the seal on the Holy Sword in broken, it is only a matter of time until the ending battle. Since it is impossible for Aoki and Yuzuriha to use their powers, he will protect Kamui. In the hospital room of CLAMP campus, Kusanagi lies in a coma with a bunch of medical equipment hooked up to him. Yuzuriha is sitting in a chair next to his bed. Kamui comes in and tells her to get some rest, but she refuses to leave Kusanagi's side. She stares at the sword resting in her lap and tells Kamui that Inuki hasn't changed back to his original form yet. Kamui tries to encourage her and get her to cheer up, but she only nods sadly. Sorata is sitting outside on some steps when Aoki approaches him. Aoki is in a wheelchair with a cast on his leg and a neck brace. These are his injuries from his fight with Kusanagi in episode 22. Aoki tells Sorata that when Arashi disappeared everyone was puzzled. He says that Karen had an idea about why Arashi disappeared. She said it could have been a form of love and that Arashi left in order to protect Sorata. Sorata doesn't understand and Aoki agrees that a woman's feelings are sometimes hard to fathom. He tells Sorata that DoHs have special powers to protect those that are important to them. Sorata looks thoughtful...

At the center of CLAMP Campus, Kamui stands in front of the sword. The campus director tells Kamui that once he picks up the sword, the other sword will call out to him and he will have fight Fuma. Kamui says that Hinoto told him that he hasn't yet awakened as the true Kamui of the DoH, even if he does wield the sword. The director says that says that Hinoto entrusted everything to Kamui and that she believed that he would become the true Kamui, and that he believes, too. Kamui pulls the sword free from the seals remains.

Fuma senses that Kamui has retrieved the sword. He adds that a new member has filled in for the DoE. He looks at Arashi and tells her it's just as she wished. The only way to protect Sorata and change his destiny is to kill Kamui. She tells Fuma if there had been any other way, she wouldn't be there now. Fuma smiles.

Sorata is still sitting on the steps. He is thinking about Arashi and recalls the time he told her it was his destiny to die protecting the woman he loved (episode 6). He also remembers how upset she was when he was severely injured while protecting her (episode 20). He finally realizes she is trying to protect him. He runs to the center of the campus to tell Kamui but Kamui is gone.

Kamui enters Subaru's room. Subaru is sitting in a chair staring off into space. Kamui kneels down in front of Subaru. He is carrying the sword with him. He tells Subaru that he came to say farewell. He is going to meet Fuma and doesn't know what will happen. He says he remembers what Subaru told him after he lost his right eye. That he should pursue his own wish even though it may cause the ones who love him sorrow. Kamui asks Subaru if his wish has been granted. He puts his hand over Subaru's and tells him he wants to bring Fuma back but he doesn't know what he is really wishing for yet. He says Fuma is calling him and tells Subaru goodbye. Subaru continues to stare off into space. Kakyo pulls Subaru into his dreamscape and tells Subaru he knows that the DoH, the DoE, and even the fate of the world no longer matter to Subaru because his wish has gone. Kakyo says he knows of Subaru from Hokuto and that even though he foresaw her death, he wasn't able to prevent it. He says at that moment, his wish was also gone and the one he loved did not exist in the world anymore. He tells Subaru it is the same for him.

Arashi stands on top of a tower holding her sword and looking out over Tokyo. She thinks back about what Fuma had told her about the only way to change Sorata's destiny and protect him is to kill Kamui. Sorata heads out after Kamui. He is thinking to himself that Arashi should not think such foolish thoughts and if she lays a hand on Kamui he will kill her.

Fuma is waiting for Kamui at the tower structure. His sword starts to vibrate as Kamui arrives. Fuma tells Kamui that he will never truly awaken as a DoH. Kamui glares at him, then draws his sword and attacks. Red and blue lightening flashes in the sky and Sorata sees it from a distance and heads in that direction. Fuma blocks Kamui's blows and jumps out of the way. He tells Kamui that he is not the one who Kamui will be fighting. Just then, Arashi leaps down from the tower with her sword drawn. She knocks Kamui's sword out of his hands. He asks her why she is doing this and Fuma answers it is because it is her wish to kill Kamui. Kamui tells Arashi to stop as she slashes at him with her sword. Not wanting to fight her, Kamui tries to get away while Fuma watches with interest. Arashi catches up with Kamui and he tells her to stop this foolishness. She slashes at him some more with her sword and this time ends up cutting him across the arm and cheek. She has him cornered and is about to strike when Sorata yells at her to stop. He tells her not to do this. She looks at him for a moment, then with a determined expression, she swings her sword at Kamui. Sorata hits her with a blast of lightening and knocks her off the tower. She lands on her feet below, unharmed. Sorata lands in front of her and tells her he is a DoH and it is his duty to protect Kamui even at the cost of his own life. He forms a ball of lightening in his hand and Arashi readies her sword. They stare at one another. Kamui watches the exchanges from the tower and worries about them. Sorata and Arashi run towards each other, her with her sword drawn and him with a lightening ball in his hand. They stop at the same time. Her blade stops near his throat and the lightening extinguishes from his hand. Neither could bring themselves to hurt the other. Red lightning strikes and the large metal structure above them breaks and collapses between them. Sorata is thrown away from Arashi. The smoke clears and Fuma is holding Arashi off the ground by her shirt. He finds it amusing that even as a DoE, she has betrayed him. He throws her down and tells her that the only path left for her is to accept her own death. He strikes with his blade. Blood sprays across Arashi's face. She looks up, surprised to still be alive, and see Sorata standing between her and Fuma. He has been impaled through the chest by Fuma's blade. She screams his name. Fuma tells her that this is Sorata's destiny and that she is next. He starts to withdraw the blade but Sorata grabs a hold of it. He tells Fuma he will not let that happen and charges the blade with his lightening. There is a huge explosion as Sorata gives it his all. Fuma is severely damaged and disappears. Sorata collapses as both Kamui and Arashi scream his name and rush to catch him. The old monks voice is heard as Sorata falls in slow motion. He says that Sorata will meet Kamui and become his companion. He will protect Kamui with his life but if he dies, he will do so for the sake of a woman. He will die for the sake of the woman he loves. Arashi catches Sorata and supports him in her lap. Fuma appears on his throne. He looks to be stunned and in pain. Half of his face is burned off. Kamui and Arashi plead with Sorata to hang in there. Arashi starts to cry and tells him not to die. Sorata come to and asks Arashi if she is hurt. She asks him why he did it. He says it is for the best and asks Kamui to forgive Arashi, saying she did it to protect him. Kamui, with tears in his eyes, tells Sorata he understands. Sorata smiles and looks at Arashi. He speaks out loud to the stargazer, telling him that he did it, he was able to protect Kamui and the woman he loves. Arashi looks stunned and screams "NO!" She is crying hard and pleading with Sorata not to die. He tells her not to cry because he hates to see a woman shed tears. He grabs Arashi's hand and tells her to promise him that she will live on for him. He tells her she is proof that he existed in this world. Arashi nods, tears streaming down her face. Sorata smiles and tell her she really is beautiful and that he is so happy to have met her. With those last words, he dies in Arashi's arms. Arashi calls his name and starts screaming. Kamui turns away, crying. At that moment at Mt. Kouya, the old stargazer watches a star fall from the sky and sadly says Sorata's name.
