Her mother walks in and sees the light show and gasps. Karen happily asks her mother if it is pretty, to which her mother clutches at a cross around her neck and calls her a devil. Adult Karen is filling out some paper work at the government building where Yuto works. As she turns to leave she sees Aoki. She starts to call out to him but overhears the clerk (which turns out to be Yuto) ask Aoki if this is his divorce notice. Karen is shocked to hear Aoki is filing for divorce. Yuto asks Aoki if he is sure he wants to him to take the divorce document because he doesn't look sure. Aoki says that he is certain and that he is prepared for this. Yuto and Aoki look at each other and recognize that they are DoE and DoH. They agree to meet later that night at Tokyo Station. Karen overhears all of this and looks sad. Nataku approaches Satsuki and asks her to use Beast to find out more about his origin. Aoki arrives at his office only to be teased by his co-workers because a women from Flower (It's a place where woman wear lingerie and give men sponge baths) named Karen called for him and wants him to return her call. They tease him about the time he went there to do a story and came back looking really happy. Aoki thinks back to that time and recalls his first meeting with Karen, whom he interviewed. He tries to explain to his co-workers he was happy because she was such a nice person to talk with. This only draws more teasing. Aoki returns Karen's phone call and she asks him if he could stop by her house that evening. Yuto calls Kanoe and tells her that he has been challenged by Aoki. She wants to send another Angel with him, but Yuto doesn't think that it will be necessary. Satsuki unplugs from Beast and tells Nataku that chairman of the pharmacy company had a granddaughter named Kazuki who died from an illness. After she died, her father committed suicide. Satsuki goes on to say that the chairman used his granddaughter's uterus and her father's corpse to try to clone them. Satsuki says that this is all Beast came up with. Nataku says that he is Kuzuki and wonders why he was created. Karen is thinking about her childhood. A flashback, shows a young Karen being severely beaten by her mother. Her mother is slapping her around and saying she wished Karen had never been born. She also tells Karen that she is a devil and no one would mourn her if she died. She keeps shouting at Karen saying no one will cry for you, no one. Her mother then clutches her chest and collapses to the floor. Karen screams for her mother but she doesn't answer. Aoki arrives at Karen's place and sees her old Teddy bear sitting in a chair. He picks it up and remarks that it looks like it has been with her a long time. Karen agrees, and says it's her only family. Karen serves Aoki tea and they sit across from each other. Karen tells Aoki how sorry she is about Saiki's death. Aoki says when Saiki was 13 he promised Saiki that he wouldn't cry if he died. Karen touches Aoki's hand as tells him that it's painful not to cry over the loss of a loved one and he shouldn't make those kinds of promises. Karen tells Aoki she knows about the divorce which surprises Aoki. She says she saw him at the office, but did not want to call out to him. Aoki tells her that he doesn't want his wife or daughter to get involved in this battle which is why he filed for divorce. He says that if he survives, he plans on remarrying his wife. Karen is happy to hear that. Aoki says he has to go now and gets up to leave. Karen grabs his arm and tells him he can't go. She says she will go to Tokyo Station in his place. He says no. She then tells him that if something happens to him many will mourn for him but she doesn't have anyone who would mourn for her. He still tells her no, and she argues that he has a future with Kamui and the others and that whenever there is danger she should be the one to go because there would be no one to mourn her death. Aoki gets a little angry and can't believe she would think he would allow her to go in his place. Karen tells him that she knew he would never allow that which is why she drugged his tea. Aoki calls her name as everything gets blurry and he passes out. Karen is waiting for Yuto at Tokyo Station when Nataku appears. Karen says he is not the one she was expecting and Nataku says the same. They start to fight each other but Nataku's ribbons are no match for Karen's fire and he is quickly defeated. Karen walks over to Nataku and looks at him sadly. She says his eyes look like those of a lost boy, like her eyes used to look. Flashback to Karen's childhood again. Young Karen is at her mother's funeral clutching her Teddy bear. The priest asks her why she is not praying for her mother and tells her to come here. Karen glares at him and fire erupts in the air around her. The priest shrinks back in awe. Karen tells him she is a devil and asks him if he is going to drive her out. She says she could care less if he burns to death and asks him if he is scared. The priest replies that he is scared but he doesn't think the devil has frightened eyes like she does. Karen makes the flames burn higher and tells the priest that her mother said she was a devil and that her powers came from the devil. The priest says he doesn't believe that. He believes that the person possessing the power is the one who determines whether it is used for good or evil. He tells her that he believes God gave her that power and that one day He will show her its meaning. Karen calls him a liar and says she is a devil, but the priest says all he sees is a lost lamb. Karen softens and the flames disappear. The priest walks over to her and places a crucifix around her neck (the one she always wears as an adult) and tells her to believe in herself and that God will give her an answer. He then asks her to pray again. Adult Karen kneeling next to Nataku. She tells him it is painful not to know what you are and that a living thing does not exist without feeling. She tells Nataku that he has feelings too and reaches out and touches his cheek. Yuto attacks Karen but she gets away. He asks about Aoki and she tells him she is his opponent and asks if he has any complaints, to which he replies "none". They fight and Karen loses Yuto in the all of the steam caused by the fire and water mixing. He traps her in a water column and tries to drown her. A wind blade breaks up the water column and frees Karen. She is surprised to see Aoki was the one who rescued her. Yuto remarks that Aoki doesn't look so well and says that he has an injured companion too. He says they can continue another day. Karen tells him that next time she is his opponent. Aoki is sitting on the ground against a fence. He has a bad wound on his leg. Karen figures out that he did it to himself in order to wake up from the drug. She scolds him and bandages his would with a piece of her dress. He asks her if she really believes no one would mourn if she died. She is surprised as he grabs her hand and tells her that he is not the type to get upset easily but if she ever goes off by herself to fight again he will get very angry. He asks her if she understands. Karen looks both surprised and touched. Aoki collapses against her, exhausted; while Karen looks at him with a soft expression on her face (it's obvious she loves him). Flashback to young Karen with the priest. He is praying over her mother's coffin. Karen watches him for a moment then clasps her hands together and kneels down beside him to pray too. |
