The story begins with Kakyo talking to himself in his dreamscape. He says that the future has been decided and no one can change it. He thinks back to the day that Hokuto was killed by Seishiro and he was helpless to stop it from happening. He looks down sadly and says there is only one future. Hokuto is in her dreamscape when Kanoe appears. She says that Hokuto's dreams are never false and she (Hinoto) should realize this better than anyone. Kanoe laughs and disappears while Hinoto bows her head and cries. Kakyo then appears and tells Hinoto as Dreamgazers, they can only watch as the future unfolds and that they had to give up what they wished for a long time ago. He shows her an image reflected in the water. It is Kotori. He asks Hinoto if she knows this girl. Hinoto says its Kotori Monou and wants to know how Kakyo knows her. Kakyo tells Hinoto that Kotori had the abilities of a dreamgazer. He tells her he was able to enter Kotori's dream. He says that no matter how much you hope or wish Hinoto finishes the sentence for him, "There can only be one future". Hinoto disappears from the dreamscape. Kakyo looks up into the light and says his wish is and then thinks about the past when Hokuto was alive and used to meet him in the dreamscape. (I don't think this is a flashback to the past, more like present-day Kakyo replaying a memory over and over in his head) Hokuto appears and wonders where she is. She says it's not her dream and looks over to where Kakyo is sitting. She smiles at him and says it must be his dream. Kakyo replies that it is and Hokuto wonders how she got into Kakyo's dream. Kakyo says it's because he wanted to be with someone. They introduce themselves to each other and Hokuto asks Kakyo why he is always alone. She asks him if he can leave, or if he wants to stay where he is. Kakyo sadly shakes his head no. Hokuto cheerfully tells Kakyo that she will take him wherever he wants to go. Kakyo says he wants to see the ocean. Hokuto transforms the dreamscape into her memory of the ocean. As they watch the seagulls fly, Hokuto tells Kakyo that this is from her dream and the real ocean looks much better. She says she would like to see Kakyo again, not inside a dream, but in real life. Kakyo tells Hokuto he would like to see her too, but he cannot leave ever. Hokuto smiles and leans over closer to Kakyo. She says in this world there is no such thing as "ever". She tells him that it will be alright since he is with her and holds out her hand to him. Kakyo reaches out to grab her hand but his hand goes right through hers since she is only a memory. The ocean disappears and Hokuto fades away leaving Kakyo stooped over and grieving. Fuma appears and tells Kakyo he will grant his wish and that he is the only one who can kill him. Kamui is sitting on a branch in the tree under which Kotori is buried. He is sleeping. Kakyo pulls Kamui into a dream. Kamui opens his eyes in the dream to find himself bloody and hanging in the air suspended by wires. Kakyo stands in front of him and tells him that if he continues to wish, there will be more suffering. He tells Kamui he is a dreamgazer for the DoE and he know Kamui's past and future. (Then there is a long series of recaps from episode 1 until present that I'm not going to get into in this summary.) Kakyo tells Kamui that he has been defeated by Fuma, that he hasn't learned to create a kekkai, and that he has suffered the loss of some of his companions. Kakyo says he has foreseen all of this and now it has come to pass. He asks Kamui if he still wishes, even if all that awaits him is a future of deeper sorrow. Kamui looks defiant. He says he is the only one that can stop Fuma and that he will not lose sight of his path. He says he will grow stronger than Fuma. Kakyo asks if he intends to hurt Fuma and Kamui says he will. He says he will do whatever it takes to bring Fuma back. His answer surprises Kakyo. Kakyo says he knows how the battle will end. Kamui asks Kakyo why he is telling him this if he is a member of the DoE. Kakyo says even though he knows how everything ends, he still wants to believe in what that girl has said. Kamui and Kakyo both look up as a golden light appears above them. It is Kotori. She is dressed in white and has angel wings. She flies down and stops in front of Kamui. Kamui stares at her, his mouth open in surprise. He then smiles and says her name. At this, Kotori flies in closer to Kamui and places her hands on each side of his face. Kamui starts to apologize for not protecting her, but Kotori interrupts him, telling him "no" and smiles. She tells him not to apologize, that this was her destiny. Kamui looks down sadly and says that she protected him when he was the one who was supposed to protect her. Kotori smiles and tells him not to cry, that she will always be with him inside his heart. She says she will always be wishing for the one she loves to be able to save the brother she loves too. She hugs Kamui to her and tells him she believes in him. She tells him that anything that tries to defeat him will only make him stronger. She lets Kamui go and touches his cheek and tells him to remember that the future is still undecided. Kamui looks up at her hopefully, and slowly repeats her words, "The future is still " Kotori starts to drift away and says again that the future is undecided. Kamui repeats the words again, this time with more conviction. He looks up at Kotori, who is smiling down on him, and tells her he also believes those words. Kakyo, who has been watching the entire scene between Kotori and Kamui, looks both thoughtful and hopeful. Kotori begins to fade away and Kamui watches until he can no longer see her. Kakyo releases Kamui from the dreamscape and Kamui wakes up, still in the tree. He looks more at peace then he ever has before, and even has a small smile on his face as he stares up into the sunlight shining through the branches. |
