Summary

The story opens with a young Seishiro holding a dying woman. She tells him that he has now taken her place as the blossom star and the next person to become the blossom star after Seishiro, will be the one who kills him. She tells him that the person who kills him will be the one that cares for him most of all. Seishiro tells the woman that he doesn't have anyone who cares for him. She smiles up at him and tells Seishiro that she used to think that way too until she met him. She tells Seishiro goodbye as her blood pours out over the snow. Seishiro holds her hand up to his mouth and kisses her figures as he says "goodbye… mother".

Flash forward in time to the present day Seishiro. He stands on a building looking out over Tokyo. Meanwhile, Fuma is still beating Kamui to a pulp when a star-shaped kekkai forms around them. It is Subaru, and he has come to save Kamui. Subaru stands on a ledge behind Fuma, looking down on him with little expression. Fuma knows he is there and with his back to Subaru, says that the quickest way to destroy a kekkai is to kill the person who created it. He then spins around to face Subaru, but he doesn't look like Fuma anymore. He now looks like Seishiro. Subaru stands frozen in shock. Fuma then loses his Seishiro-face and blows up the ledge where Subaru is standing. Subaru leaps out of the way and continues to dodge Fuma's blasts while dropping paper charms as he is running from Fuma. Fuma stops throwing blasts at Subaru and turns to face him. He begins to slowly walk towards Subaru, his face expressionless. Subaru waits… just when Fuma is in the center of the paper charms Subaru had thrown out earlier, Subaru activates them. They glow, and then form a light shield around Fuma while blowing up the ground beneath Fuma's feet. Fuma stands unharmed as rocks and debris fly all around him. He looks at Subaru with his Seishiro-face causing Subaru to lose concentration, breaking the spell. As Subaru's spell is disrupted, the debris flies at Subaru, striking him and sending him flying backwards. He lands sitting upright against a metal post. Fuma approaches him. He kicks Subaru, who is severely injured and makes Subaru look at him by forcing his chin up with the toe of his boot. Subaru asks Fuma why he looks like Seishiro. Fuma pulls Subaru up by the hair and tells him that it's because that's what Subaru wished for. Fuma then gouges out Subaru's right eye with his fingers.

Back at the other building, Seishiro is lighting a cigarette. Fuma appears and asks Seishiro if he saw everything to which Seishiro says he did. Fuma tells Seishiro that there is a connection between Seishiro and Subaru and that Subaru wished for the loss of his right eye. Fuma says that Subaru's real wish is something only Seishiro can grant. He also says Subaru's wish is something very different from Seishiro's wish. Fuma disappears leaving Seishiro to wonder about the nature of Subaru's wish.

Kamui is sitting at Subaru's bedside holding his hand. Subaru's eye is covered with bandages. In the hallway outside the room, Yuzuriha is grieving over Saiki's death and Subaru's injury. Arashi and Sorata are with her. They wonder how Aoki and Hinoto are dealing with Saiki's death too. Back in the room, Subaru awakens to find Kamui sitting next to him holding his hand. He asks Kamui if he's been there the whole time and Kamui says that Subaru has done the same for him in the past. Subaru tells a stunned Kamui that he is alright and that this is what he wished for. Kamui leaved the room and goes into the hall where the other DoH are waiting. Sorata tells Kamui that Subaru will no longer be able to see out of his right eye. Kamui, who has bandages all over both arms from his fight with Fuma, angrily punches the wall. He blames himself for the deaths of Kotori and Saiki and for Subaru's injury. The other DoH tell him not to blame himself. Kamui angrily snaps at them saying he doesn't need their sympathy and walks away. Sorata tells the other DoH to let Kamui be alone for a while, since he was injured as well. The Seals then decide to search for the DoE on their own.

Subaru sits up in his bed with his hand over his injured eye. He wonders how Fuma knew about his wish and wonders if he knows about his true wish as well. Subaru then goes to see Hinoto. Hinoto tells him that Seishiro will be at the bridge over Tokyo Bay. Subaru quickly leaves to go there. As he turns his back on Hinoto, she smiles evilly, and tells Subaru to be careful.

Seishiro and Subaru face one another on the bridge. They walk towards each other, both expressionless. Seishiro pulls out a cigarette and Subaru lights it for him. Seishiro then walks past Subaru and stops behind him. They are several feet from each other now and are back to back. Seishiro tells Subaru that he hasn't changed a bit and that he is still as cute as ever. Subaru whirls around and throws several card-charms at Seishiro, which turn into white birds. Seishiro forms a pentagram which blocks and destroys the birds. Subaru forms his kekkai around the bridge. Yuzuriha, Arashi, Sorata and Kamui, each at different locations around the city, see Subaru's kekkai and start heading towards it.

Subaru and Seishiro fight fiercely. Finally, Seishiro gets the upper hand and sakura branches form around Subaru and hold him suspended in the air. Subaru stares at Seishiro for a moment, and then breaks free of the trap relatively easily. He lands on his feet in front of Seishiro and tells Seishiro that there is no need to use that technique because his fate is sealed by the blossom ever since that day…

Seishiro smiles at Subaru and removes his sunglasses. He tells Subaru that the DoE told him that Subaru's wish is very different from his own. He then asks if Subaru's wish was to kill him. Subaru's bandages around his eye unravel. They stare at one another, almost a mirror image of the other (looks very cool). Subaru says to Seishiro that he is mistaken. They leap into the air and start to fight again. Seishiro pulls back his arm, ready to thrust it through Subaru's chest as Subaru makes no move to defend himself from the attack. Seishiro's arm plunges forward and blood sprays. From a distance, Kamui sees Subaru's kekkai start to break up and fade away.

Back at the bridge, Seishiro is on his knees hanging on to Subaru. It is Subaru's hand that is through Seishiro's chest and coming out his back. Subaru looks stunned. He withdraws his hand and catches Seishiro as he falls. He asks Seishiro "why?'' Seishiro smiles and tells Subaru that it is his sister's spell. That when she sacrificed her life back then, it was her last technique.

Flashback to the day the Seishiro killed Hokuto. Seishiro is holding a dying Hokuto is his arms. She tells Seishiro that she wants Subaru to live. That she wants both Seishiro and Subaru to live. This puzzles Seishiro and he asks why him as well. He says Subaru will suffer because he killed Hokuto. Hokuto agrees, but says even so, she does not wish for Seishiro's death. She tells Seishiro that Subaru is the only one who can kill him and also, that Seishiro is the only who can kill Subaru. She says that is why she is placing a spell on him. If he tries to kill Subaru with the same technique he used to kill her, the attack will be reflected back on him instead. Seishiro asks Hokuto why she would tell him the meaning of the spell. She says that it would be meaningless if she didn't tell him and she is going to trust him one last time. She warns him again not to invoke that technique. He tells her he is not the type of person she should place her trust in. She tells him she knows that but she wants to believe in him. Hokuto reaches out to touch Seishiro's face and tells him not to forget… there is no one that does not have the opportunity to love another.

Back to present day, Subaru is still holding Seishiro. He tells Seishiro that when his sister was killed, he wanted to kill Seishiro and erase all traces of Seishiro's existence from his heart. Subaru starts crying and says he couldn't do it. He asks Seishiro why he used that technique on him if he knew about Hokuto's spell. Seishiro tells Subaru that if he really thought about it, he (Subaru) wouldn't have the guts to kill anyone. Seishiro leans up to look at Subaru. He smiles at Subaru and tells him that he is very kind. He then leans forward and whispers into Subaru's ear, "I really…" (we don't get to hear the rest, we just see Seishiro's lips move). Subaru's eyes widen in shock at Seishiro's words, and then close as if in pain. Seishiro collapses on the ground, dead. Subaru cradles Seishiro's body in his arms and says that Seishiro never said those words before even when he expected to hear them from him. Kamui and the others arrive at the bridge and find Subaru grieving over Seishiro's body. Kamui watches him sadly.

Kakyo is talking to Hinoto in the dreamscape. He tells her that nothing can change the future. Fuma's face is reflected in the pool of water in the dreamscape. He says that the DoHs dreamgazer will kill the seven Seals. Hinoto listens, hunched over with a sad expression.

Outside Subaru's apartment, the DoH stand around sadly. Inside, Kamui tries to talk to Subaru, who is sitting on his bed staring blankly. Kamui tells Subaru that he knew he (Subaru) wanted to stay by Seishiro's side even if he might be killed. Kamui says it's like this with him and Fuma. Subaru says Seishiro tried to kill him a long time ago, but he didn't do it. And that he knew where Subaru was, but didn't come after him. He asks Kamui (or maybe himself) why Seishiro didn't come to kill him. Subaru says that he wanted to get stronger to show Seishiro not to underestimate him. He wanted to become a person who could kill. Subaru asks Kamui if what a person says as they are dying is actually the truth. Subaru says even now, he doesn't know the answer and he can no longer ask the person. Subaru tells Kamui to not let this bother him and he should be thinking about what he wishes for. Kamui says "even if my wish makes someone unhappy?" Subaru tells Kamui that there is no way everyone can have happiness and then stares off into space again as Kamui watches him worriedly.

In the dreamscape, Kakyo says that the future Hokuto wished for was not granted and blames himself for not being able to intervene even though he knew what was going to happen. Fuma is in the dreamscape with Kakyo. He tells Kakyo that a DoH's kekkai is created to protect the ones in need of protection and if there is none to protect, the kekkai is useless. As Fuma is speaking, Subaru is sitting on his bed staring off vacantly. Fuma says that a DoE (Seishiro) is now dead, but a DoH (Subaru) had died too (figuratively speaking). In Subaru's room a sakura blossom floats past a photograph lying on the floor. It is a picture of a younger Subaru, Hokuto, and Seishiro standing together and smiling at the camera in happier times.
